BBC Music announce SXSW 2016 coverage.

BBC Music has announced details of its inaugural BBC Music Showcase being held at this year’s South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival in Austin, Texas.

The showcase will be presented by BBC presenters Jo Whiley, Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens, and will take place at the celebrated music venue Stubbs in Austin on 17 March. The evening will feature a number of artists, all of whom represent the breadth of genres the BBC nurtures and supports across its popular music services.

The line-up includes American music icon Loretta Lynn; Jake Bugg; Brooklyn indie-rockers Sunflower Bean; British singer-songwriter and electronic music artist Låpsley; and rapper and MC Stormzy.

Timings of the event are still tbc. Highlights of the performances will be played across Radio 1, 1Xtra, Radio 2 and 6 Music with additional highlights available online – bbc.co.uk/music.

South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Conference & Festival is a launching pad for new creative content and original music and is now in its 30th year. This month, the annual music festival, which takes place in Austin, Texas, will see 2,100 acts, from the unsigned to the iconic, play across over 100 stages in just six days.

Jason Carter, Head of International, Commercial and New Music at the BBC, says: “Hosting a BBC Music stage at a world class festival is fantastic. The five artists on the bill demonstrate the range of music we support every day across the BBC, from established stars to those in the ascendancy. Alongside our regular BBC Introducing stage, BBC Music at SXSW will showcase some amazing new UK talent and reflect one of the world's biggest musical festivals for audiences in the UK.”

For SXSW 2016, BBC Introducing will be hosting two stages. The first takes place on Wednesday 16 March at the British Music Embassy with a line-up of exciting British exports including ESTRONS, Isaac Gracie, Frances, Billie Marten and The Sherlocks. Then on Friday 18 March, 1Xtra presenters will host a night of hip hop and grime at the new venue 3TEN at Austin City Limits live with a line-up of BBC Introducing acts that includes Folly Rae, Elf Kid, Jamal Woon, Leo Kalyan, and special guests JP Cooper and Shakka.
